The story has a good balance to its psychological horror, walks the tight rope of being just enough and too much. I think you need that with this sort of story.

The antagonist is a believable one, because minds can warp. A person can get lost in their sadness and rage. You understand where this antagonist is coming from even though they took things in a morbid direction.

The protagonist is strong, forceful in her determination. I really liked how she was built. The two detectives in this story played well off each other, and each was believable in their own right. One is sympathetic, the other a bit of a butt. But you get where he is coming from, as he has his own way of dealing with the pain.

Up to about a little over halfway this story was an easy three. But it revs into another gear after that, just gets absolutely bananas. And that ending! Freaking heck, man. I haven't been that juiced about an ending in a long time. That was excellent.

This isn't a genre that I typically read, however I am glad that I picked up this book and gave it a shot and you will be too. I promise. Even though it's a work of fiction, it paints an accurate picture of mental health issues, our continuous inability to treat it, and what can happen when someone with mental health issues is released into society uncured and the terrible things they are capable of. It also shows us that some people can overcome these ailments and make a positive difference in the world by helping other.
As you read this story, you'll find yourself having difficulty putting the book down and rooting for the main character, Abby all the way. The story is well written and flows well, looking deep into the lives and thoughts of all characters involved. I look forward to seeing more from this author.

Hard to put down!

I could really see this book becoming a movie or at least being on Netflix. I normally don't read horror but this was really good. There were no boring down-times and the action just kept coming. I also really liked the ending. I would definitely recommend this!
